Former Owners of New York Otsego Nursing Home Charged with Endangering the Welfare of Residents
Joseph Zupnik and Daniel Herman were formally charged with multiple misdemeanor charges. According to the New York Attorney General’s office, when the men took over Focus Otsego in 2014 they cut staffing and staff payroll creating an environment that was inadequate to provide safe care to the home’s 200 residents. Staffing levels went from 298 to 225 staff members. Multiple patient care issues were identified and in 2016 the facility was placed on probation by the federal centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Once again greed and the pursuit of profit outweighed the needs of the weakest most dependent of out elderly patients.
